John Quirk (Alan Williams)
John Quirk was so impressed by the 1950 movie King Solomon’s Mines that he later left his job as a draftsman in a Birmingham rubber company, got himself out to East Africa where he qualified as an architect and built game lodges using local materials, tribesmen and Swahili. This led to being appointed as architect for a NY based international hotel company. After nine years travelling the world for them, he discovered the delights of Australia, moved there and set up a design practice. He has published over 200 illustrated magazine articles on nautical, military and African history. and four non-fiction books. He has enjoyed making wooden toys for his two boys and eight grandchildren, building wooden boats and driving his open two seater.
He and his wife spend their time on the Central Coast of NSW, travelling or at Noosa in Queensland.

All That Glisters
They came from the canyons of Manhattan, the sparkling waters of Sydney Harbour and the sweeping plains of Africa – an attractive New York lawyer, an Australian journalist, a boat builder, a chef, an accountant and an orphaned African goatherd.
